Sunday night

It’s Monday morning, Memorial Day here in the office. Sean is on a trip and Chris, Ant and myself are joined by the lovely Jen Leo.

Last night Ant invited us to the Tiny Tavern (which is a hotbed for local activism ) to watch a local band, 3 guys ( drummer, bass and lead guitar) play some rock music. I got there before it started and the place was empty. I dutifully downed and beer, listened to a few songs then strolled over to Sam Bonds Garage. The place was packed and after ordering my first pint of amber ale I discovered it was BINGO night….on no! Sam Bonds attracts an alternative crowd, plenty of hippies and children of the 60’s so it wasn’t the usual bingo experience. There were also many locals there and the 2 guys running the show were very funny. I didn’t manage to win the beer, pizza or t-shirt but did meet up with a buddy, guitarist Geoffrey Mays.

This is another one of those weird events that Eugene seems to specialize in.

Could it get anymore weird?

It turned out to be a good night for the Tiny’s Tav, though. Abandon Ship was the name of the band, good sound; some of the guys from another local band, Champagne Syndicate, were also there - one thing to say for Eugene, good local music scene, wherever you go.
