A Date in the BootBus
By Sean | PermalinkLast night I went on a date…surprisingly, (or maybe not so surprisinly) it was my first date using the Bootbus as the mode of transport.
I must admit, It is kinda cool (at least I think) to go on a date in the BootBus. All the other dudes that I am competing with probably have BMers and stuff. Forget that…I go in style….1971 Olive Green panel van, engine in the back, BootsnAll logos all over style…
So we park the BootBus near where were gonna get drinks, and the shutting down of the bootbus is a very laborious project.
1) Turn off ignition
2) Manually roll-up Windows
3) Manually lock windows
4) Engage Parking brake
5) Take off face plate to radio and put in carrying case
6) Undo manual seat belts
Anyway, maybe I was a bit nervous, but I forgot step #7 - take keys out of the ignition and put keys in pocket. So within a 10 seconds of closing the door and reminding my date to please manually lock her door, I realized that I had locked my keys in the BootBus.
Smooth.
Thank goodness for AAA (membership paid for itself) and a general positive attitude between date and I to deal with this slight inconvienence. The AAA guy met us afterwards and it took him 15-20 minutes to undo the lock - he said it was a “marathon” - ususally it takes 5 seconds but these old cars can give him fits sometimes.
Ta.

Ubie,
Was that “ta” for thanking the AAA guy, or “ta” for signing off?
Re date: so, did you kiss her ta?
And did you bring along your kit?

No pic? Hey, we’re spoiled. We wanted to see the pic of you picking her up. What’s she look like? Is she good enough for our friend Sean?
I pic of her & the AAA guy would have been good.
Next time, don’t forget the camera!
joe - I called Chris in Australia (via VoIP) while I was waiting cuz I rememebered you saying something about a trick…
socalgirl - I will get a picture next time - good idea….a pictoral essay of a date.
leo - I didn’t use the word “ta” at all during the evening…maybe I should have and no, I did not “kiss her ta”

I suppose that I didn’t teach you “the trick” to getting into a locked VW bus.
Once you stop using “ta”, I may teach you.
