“Be like Nick”
An excerpt from this piece Nick wrote…
Chris gave me the huge compliment of saying after he makes his coffee in the morning he turns on his computer and checks Baliblog. For me that is awesome news and I thank all the people who do the same. I was telling Chris that I don’t regard myself as an expert on Bali, I’m just a guy who lives here and the only thing I’m an expert on is what I do everyday. I can share my observations and form opinions that sometimes are wrong. By sharing those opinions I can stimulate other people to respond. That helps to educate me and all the other readers. This is all good and I welcome constructive criticism.
Humble, thankful, open to discussion. I used to want to “Be like Mike” - now I want to I want to “be like Nick”.

Lefty, closer to first base, I want to ‘bat like Nick’.
Which Chris? Don’t they both do that?
Chris O’Neill has given me two of the best compliments I’ve ever received. The first might’ve been the first weekend I met him. He said I was a good map reader. The second was the last time I saw him, he said I was going to make someone a great wife someday.
I can’t say he’s right on both accounts, but they meant a lot to hear them at the time he said them.
Doh! I should’ve read the link. I wrongly assumed that Nick was talking about his other two Chris’s. Ah well, it’s still nice to give the other O’Neill some props. ![]()
Motorcyle, helmet, slow speed, keen eye, open to people and oneself - I want to travel like Nick.
