“You’re getting the bloody sack, mate”

Adventure travel is quickly becoming one of the hottest new trends in travel. If you don’t believe me, I am sure you (and millions more) will see Fox’s new travel reality show this November, kind of like a hybrid of the Survivor meets the Apprentice, where 16 contestants travel around the world and compete in extreme competitions in places like North Africa. If you loose the competition, you “get the bloody sack, mate,” apparently like Trump’s, “your fired” catch-phrase.

Now, trust me, just because Fox is launching a show really doesn’t mean the world of travel is changing. But, we also have celebrities like Ewan McGregor riding a motorcycle around the world (and making a movie about it). Backpackers are trying to follow Che Guevara’s motorcycle journey through Latin America. And, even companies like National Geographic are offering “expeditions” to the public to all the corners of the world, even Antarctica.

What does all this preaching mean? Jump on the bandwagon with us and, at the least, sign up for BootsnAll Adventure Newsletter. We will highlight great adventure destinations around the world, from the classic slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro, to some of the more remote destinations like the state of Sikkim in India, said by some to be the “New Nepal.” We will publish stories from trekkers, interview kayakers on a first descent, and even interview a Nepalese Sherpa about his thoughts on travel in Nepal.

I read an article recently by the guy who’s 1973 book about his four year motorcycle journey around the world supposedly inspired Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman to go on their motorcycle trip.

The guy (who’s name I can’t remember) met up with Ewan McGregor on his bike somewhere in Mongolia and said he was surprised how small Ewan’s entourage was. He only had a bodyguard, a doctor and a producer with him. Can’t beat independent travel.

Kind of funny he had a body guard. For what? I wonder if he thinks loads of people in Mongolia are looking for autographs since they know that he was in Star Wars and Trainspotting.
