Chris and I arrived in Vegas to a beautiful day. We had a meeting and it looks like we are gonna close a deal that totally benefits the BootsnAll community. Afterwards, we had a lot of sushi and I convinced Chris to plop down $100 so we can play blackjack at Hard Rock Cafe Casino.

10 free beers later Chris is up $140 and I am up $1100. At this moment, I am committing to an extra keg for the year end PDX party if we get a solid number of out-of-town committals. So if you are thinking about making the trip and you are already a BootsnAll member, let me know. You can probably stay at the BootsnAll hostel and an extra keg is in store for you! Just thank the Bulgarian Blackjack dealer, Maria!

Yippeeeeeeee!! Free beer! I’m 98% sure I’ll be in PDX for the party.

$1100… that’s awesome. Congrats on the winnings and on closing the deal.

Freesia, I’m so excited you’re coming! Is Mark?

Sean, I’m so happy you were able to get Chris to open his wallet for gambling. It sounds like this trip is rocking the socks off the last one. I hope your luck holds throughout the week. If you need a breather, the Rio has an Oxygen bar. And the spa at the Luxur is open all night long.

I’ll be thinking of you guys tomorrow night when I’m in Viejas. The Leos are taking a family field trip for steak and tables. Three of us will be playing poker, and one will be playing Baccarat. It’ll be my first time at a live poker table since I’ve learned how to play Hold em.

Keep having fun and closing big money making deals!

Congrats on the winning, Sean & Chris.

Jen - This past weekend was my first time playing Hold’em live at a casino. It was intimidating at first, but I was soon having a blast. I might need to play higher stakes, though. In 3 hours, I was up $20. I was never down more than $20, either, which is good. There wasn’t too much excitement. Good luck and many pocket Aces to you!

Hold’em live sounds like a saloon shootin.

How’d you do, Jen?

I don’t favor beer. Wine, anyone?

I’m with Court.

“A business writer scheduled to speak at a forum on the economic evils of gambling found theory trumped by practice during a winning streak at a casino. Up a few hundred dollars at the blackjack table, George
Donnelly was ‘having a hard time remembering fully
what my objections were to casino gambling,’ he mused in a Boston business journal.

Eventually, his luck turned (as everyone’s does at the tables), and he left the casino with less than he’d
come in with. On reflection, he made a few observations, among them never to draw a card when the dealer is showing a six, and to quit while you’re ahead. Easier said than done.” From an article in the Montreal Gazette.

Stay ahead, guys.

Hey Jen - I’ll be flying solo to PDX next month. Mark won’t be able to join me :-(

Technically, when the dealer is showing a six and you have an Ace-2 through Ace-6, you should double down.

Blackjack is evil, I love it, but it’s evil.

Matt and I don’t gamble much at all. Nope. Not at all.

Chris “f-ed” up our system last nite and we both lost $100. Still up 1K - so all is good. Going to the Palms tonight for a party sponsored by Yahoo.

Yahoooo!

Thanks for the extra tips Matt.

I had a shocker of a first night at hold ‘em. I was at Viejas in San Diego. My uncle is a regular and took me to get my card in the poker room. I sat down at a 3-6 table with $100 rack. Soon after getting there I won a decent pot and must’ve been up $50 ish. That let me play for free for a while and at my lowest I was into my own money $30-35.

It was a full table and the guys were nice and helping me with next steps. I still wasn’t that familiar with when to check or bet. And then there was that kill button which I hadn’t heard of before. It means that if someone wins twice, you double it to $6 instead of $12.

Then, maybe after an hour or so, maybe it was only 45 minutes, I don’t know, it was at least 3 dealer changes, I started winning. I won twice and then I had to start each hand with the kill button. And I kept winning. At one point, the preppy looking East coast visitor on my right (he had a gorgeous Rolex) exclaimed that I had won the last seven hands.

“No way,” I said. “Seven? Really?” And I kept winning. So much that I started to knock off players one by one.

I won with trip nines, a straight, flush spades that beat a straight, trip eights, one time I think I had an Ace high when there was nothing out there. But the one my uncle saw was when I had a 2-3 unsuited (I’m pretty sure). I was about to fold, but the dealer stopped me and told me that I had the Kill and so I could keep going. Then a 2 came up on the flop so I stayed in a bit. More cards came up and I didn’t have anything more, but I had won so many times before. Everyone else was throwing in their cards with me as the last person to make a move. It came down to me and the Rolex guy on my right. I think we had gone all the way to the river. Anyway, he hesitated, thought about raising, and then just called. He turned over ace queen - nothing. I turned over the pair of 2s and he lost. By now I think I’d filled three racks. They made a lot of noise at this point and it might’ve been the 12th win?

Anyway, at the end, I left the table with $488 (388 up) and had knocked out five players. The bosses had come over. The guys who had been beat were standing around the table waiting ot see how long I’d last. And Rolex guy said that the count was 15. I won 15 hands in a row.

It was crazy. It didn’t feel good to be taking their money and I tried to give some back, but the cards wouldn’t let me. I’d have nothing on the flop, put more money in to help them get some back, and then the next to cards would turn me into the winner.

I guess runs like that don’t happen very often so it was definitely beginner’s luck.

Sean, Chris, I hope you guys did well after we spoke. And cheers to a blast of a last night!
