A few weeks worth of Blog Posts

I am leaving to go RTW manana de la manana and the lead up to it, has left me with a dozen or so blog posts that just should have been done, but just did not. So I’ll try to cram in 2 weeks worth into this eve b4 leaving post.

Summary of Pictures…

1) 1st 2 pics are of the First Thursday in the Pearl District. Mum and Dad came with me as we visited our friend Andrea Johnson. She had a show at a salon tunred gallery for the night. It was fun. The one girl just decided that she wanted to be on BootBlog and you can see Andrea in the distance. Jody Runge (Former U of O women’s basketball coach) was at Andrea’s party as well. SHe is one tall woman!

2) Ram and Tashubi returned from there 2 week Hawaii Honeymoon with Fresh Pineapple and Mango for me. Yum

3) Shawn Kobb, BootsnAll Member came by last week for a beer. We discussed his upcoming RTW trip with his wife Jennifer as well as his job as a 911 dispatcher and call receiver. I asked Shawn where the most crime in the city happens…he knows, and if you are moving to Portland, we will sell this info to you for $50 a pop. ;-)
4) Last weekend I went to San Francisco for the Book Passage Travel Writers Conference and to see the Bruce Springsteen Concert. I was pleased to see Jen Leo pick me up in her new BMW. Sand in my Bra has become the 1st platinum selling womens travel anthology in the history of publishing. I am happy for her and I was happy to get driven around in her BM’er for the weekend. You’ll see some other pictures from that weekend…Jen and Nate pulling each others hair at Book Passage, Brian, Dana, and Jen on the Embarcadero in front of Houstons just b4 the concert, and Jen Leo negotiating her next book contract…looks like a $250,000 advance this time. Good on ya Jen. (Just kidding on the platinum book and $250,000K advance - but let’s hope when she makes it someday, she doesn’t forget her friends at BootsnAll)

5) Daniel Wallace visited the BootsnAll hostel for 2 nights this past week….here are a few photos of him at 6 a.m. - I took him to the bus station in the BootBus

6) The other day, I met-up with Stephen Savage from the Savage Files and Kacey from Sunbucket. We had a great talk and I got to learn a bit about Stephens trip….see his site to learn more.

7) And then today, Alex Johnson stopped by the BootsnAll Hostel to say hi and talk about his RTW trip in 1.5 years. This kid is 16 and is already planning to go RTW after graduation. He is amped. We went to the pub…I had a beer and he had a beer as well (root beer) and we talked travel, school, peer pressure and all sort of stuff. I hope Alex will follow through and do this trip in almost 2 years time.

What is BootBlog?

BootBlog is the company blog of the BootsnAll Travel Network, a company that has been connecting travellers since 1998. Our goal is to inspire, educate and cultivate an organic community of independent travellers. But what does that mean? Well, we love to travel and we love to connect other travellers who have the desire to get out and see this great world of ours. BootBlog will showcase what is going on around the office, around the company and within our community of travellers.

There's gonna be a Bootie wedding!
Those of you who read the BootBlog may remember my recent musings on how online friends become real-life friends. What some of you who read that article may not know is that I heard from several BootsnAll members after it was published who said, "Yeah, that's interesting and all, but we've been doing that for years now." And it's … [Read more]
