ADSL slow today

by Sean on October 3, 2002    |    1 Comment

The past 3 days our DSL has been slow. Our speeds are as fast as a 14.4 modem. It makes surfing painfully slow.

Jason, from the Feynman Group, stopped in when our connection was the slowest this morning. He sells DSL connections in Oregon and we met him at the Business afterhours last week.

Jason seems like a good guy. He is from Indiana (‘nother mid-west boy like me) and has a signed picture of Bobby Knight on his desk (not sure why I mentioned it, I just did). Watch him here as he explains the virtues of a fast internet connection.

My own experience confirms a couple of things:

1. ADSL can painfully slow (slower than a dialup connection) at times, especially for internet browsing (html). There seems to be a load threshold for your server or network, beyond which the trouble starts. And the change occurs like a quantum leap ie it is not linear.

2. What is surprising is a seldom noticed fact by many. Even when ADSL internet access is slow, the ftp download continues to be fast, or at least noticeably fast enough. SO what is that glitich which is slowing down the html and not ftp from DOS prompt?

3. My own attempt to find the truth from ISP and othere xperts failed so far.

What is BootBlog?

BootBlog is the company blog of the BootsnAll Travel Network, a company that has been connecting travellers since 1998. Our goal is to inspire, educate and cultivate an organic community of independent travellers. But what does that mean? Well, we love to travel and we love to connect other travellers who have the desire to get out and see this great world of ours. BootBlog will showcase what is going on around the office, around the company and within our community of travellers.
