Bali Nightclub Bombing Kills 187

Well, what can I say? I am extremely saddened anytime folks needlessly die like this. Not to mention, I just booked Nick’s ticket for Bali last week and our impending Bali “office”. We will just have to see what happens…but for now…I feel real sad for all the folks and families of the deceased, the Local Balinese and their businesses (which wil be severely hurt by this)

Hey Sean,

I too am terribly disturbed by this sensless tragedy, thinking of all the young wonderful travellers I have met, I pray they are safe.
Can’t understand why the terrorists would want to kill so many young innocent people, so removed from the issues in the middle east.
I too am booked for my trip to Bali, KL and Thailand for January. I am going to wait and will probably still go as I won’t let terrorism stop me from seeing the beauty that still exists in Indonesia. I will wait and see what the consulate advises and will only cancel if they won’t allow me to go.
I will be looking to you guys for advice and new info as well and will update you and/or Nick with anything I find out.
Thanks, Jac

I think most decent people are shocked by the cowardly attack in Bali. The local people are mellow and relaxed and Bali has always been safe. The idea that somebody has attacked travelers in a place I like feels that took a giant shit on it to me. Al Queda is doing a great job of rallying world support against it. I think Megawati needs to get off her ass and track these people down. Suharto had no problem keeping a tight reign on people he didn’t like and Al Queda / local extremists seek to turn Indonesia into an Islamic republic.

Here’s a newsletter I got yesterday from Bali Discovery Tours.

Bali Update #317 – 14 October 2002
Today the 3 million people who live on Bali are in a state of shock and grief as we come to grips with the horrendous bomb attack of last Saturday night in downtown Kuta that has claimed over 180 of our neighbors and visitors.

Angered at the bestiality of the godless cowards who violated our island’s peace, the people of Bali are steadfast in their desire to root out the perpetrators of this heinous act and quickly bring those responsible to justice before both man and God.

Sadly, this weeks Bali Update carries stories of unimaginable sadness, proving that even Paradise is not immune from the worldwide scourge of international terrorism.

Please join us in our prayers for the dead, the injured, and their families.

I am looking forward to moving to Bali in January and helping the island rebuild its great reputation.

I was thinking of visiting Bali in mid november on my way to Japan. I am now having second thoughts because of recent events. I think maybe their will be less risk because of increased security? I would dearly love to see this beautiful island. Does anyone know the currnt situation for Australian travellers entering Bali?
