With Anthony off and experiencing new adventures (Good Luck Ant!), this opens up other opportunities for folks that might want to work at BootsnAll. So without further ado….

BootsnAll is accepting resumes for the following two positions:

1) Customer Service/Travel Writer
This position involves servicing BootsnAll customers as well as writing about travel (via experience and research). We are a small company so these will not be the only two things you do, but it is a start. Skills: Good attitude, HTML, CSS, traveled overseas at least once.

2) IT Programmer
This position entails managing the server network and programming code for the BootsnAll Travel Network. Everything from making sure our servers are up, to optimizing code. Knowledge of HTML, CSS, MySQL, PostGRES, PHP, Perl, FTP and SSH are essential. A chance to help build the network and write applications to better serve the BootsnAll Travel Community.

Why would you want work for BootsnAll?
1) Passion for independent travel
2) Work for a small, but growing company
3) Ability to create your own position over time
4) Opportunities to travel as part of your work

Why you wouldn’t want to work for BootsnAll
1) Money drives you
2) You like to “tell your mates you did it”
3) You like the routine of 9 to 5

We are not Intel, and can’t pay like Intel. But we can offer a comfortable work environment, flexi schedule, medical insurance and sabbatical’s every 2 years (with a RTW ticket thrown in). So if either of these 2 positions interest you. Please send the following to sean_nospam@BootsnAll.com with the subject line of “BootsnAll Job Opening”:

1) Resume
2) Why you think you should work for BootsnAll
3) What makes you unique?
4) Your travel experience and what you gained from it

Note: We will be accepting application upto October 1, 2003 and aim to fill these positions by January 2004.

Cheers and thank-you,

Hmmmm - you know - a lot of people have been asking me this (remote working). My first thought is “no”. for several reasons.

1) Nothing beats being in the same physical space.

2) How will we train and interact?

But so many people have been asking this, I guess I will consider remote workers…so go ahead and throw your hat in if you want it bad enough.

So that kinda answers your question as well Barrie…so sure.

Thanks for asking Ann and Barrie!

Dear guys,
Those e-mails sent in by other people are extremely funny. Why I want this job? Besides being a rock star this is really the only other appealling dream job out there. Have I been out of the country. Yes. Physically and mentally!
Can I work long erratic hours . Yes, no problem mon. I have been a chef for the wealthy of the world and am usually on call 24/7. I need to get out of the USA, which I love but have become overloaded by mass consumerism, commercialism, bad politics, over payed athletes, etc. I am sure you get the gist. I will send my CV asap and a more formal letter. Just wanted to drop a note. The job oppurtunity couldn’t come at a better time. I watch Justine Shapiro on GLOBETREKKER and wonder, “Who did she she know to get this gig?” Of course she is quite good too. Cheers! Lindsay Power

I often wondered this myself…but I discovered that all the hosts landed the gig, not by being travelers, but by being trained actors. (All of them have a background in theater, which sort of make sense, it IS a TV show.)

Well it certainly looks like a lot of people want to work with the lads at Bootsnall, and who could blame us? I’d love to make coffee and talk travel all day with the boys! Just want to say good luck to the lads in deciding…

What a shame you’re based in Oregon (no, I’m jesting of course, I bet it’s a lovely place). I’m a UK reader and would have gladly applied for the advertised vacancy. I am travelling again in Jan/Feb only for 5 weeks this time (11 months June02-May03) back to Thailand, Laos and possibly Vietnam. I love writing and infact going back to SE Asia to research a book (currently on writing course). If you think of any freelance work, please let me know!

Kind Regards

Camilla

Sean
Currently I only have my dive resume to attach. I have done a number of other programs…none to the point and extent that I feel passionate enough about them to put on a resume. I have worked for a small magazine writing reviews of local shows. I have also had some of my work published (articles>very few.poetry, etc) I enjoy the culture and the experience of travel. The love of travel flows through my veins. I can only send you my proposal for the exchange position at the University of New South Wales to accurately describe my feelings towards travel. I would like to work with people. I have done so all of my life. The customer service position would be the one Im interested in.

Im so tired Im losing my mind. I will send you the papers that describe my interests in more detail if that will help you out at all. Traveling as a part of my work has driven me thus far and I hope will continue to drive me for the rest of my life. I cant explain what makes me unique from anyone else…I love the life and the people that I have met along the way and that is why I travel. I dont go out there just to have fun, I go there to understand the people and why they are where they are in their lives and what part their culture plays on that ( ive been made fun of for years…because Id rather talk to the 80 year old man that has seen the progression rather than the 21 year old boy whom should catch my interest)

Travel experience… I spent a month on a catamaran through the lesser Antilles dive training and working with the islands we visited (Rainforest work to reduce numbers of introduced species, climbing, island culture-an experience walking away with exactly what you wanted as a person..you could leave learning nothing or everything year 10), between university and highschool a month living in Egypt…more dive training and in all reality life training. Self funded two month trip through Europe between first and second year of University…spent enough time in each place to understand and know the people: not a trip trying to see all you could in a limited time span. Between second and third year…worked in Akumal Mexico as a scientific research scuba diver. Spent the last semester in Australia. Traveling a month before: living on peoples couches through LA and Hawaii and Northern Australia. Spent time in New Zealand while over there. After school was over. A 20 year old girlfriend(my best friend) and I traveled for two months. We went to Bali, Thailand, Hong Kong and Cambodia. Incredible lifestyle and an incredible learning experience. It feels good to know that I have worked as hard as I could to get there and truly believe that I deserved it( or at least hoped that I did). I traveled with my family throughout my youth but it’s too much to say.

My parents have both worked full time since they were 21 so that I could see what I have seen and so that I would work to get to where I am in the world and what I have seen. Sorry its too late to be applying and I am too tired to speak. This is what comes to mind when I think of why this job makes sense to me. I may not have the training youre looking for but I have the desire to learn!
speak to you soon
Lauren
the two attachments explain my thoughts in a more eloquent manner…pretty much I was half awake when I wrote this All that I have sent you is different but they all answer the questions you are looking for. I can only hope that this is enough background info for you to understand who I am…if not, I hope you have a wonderful time picking the right person.. because reading the applications alone would intrigue me to go further.

Good luck in the future’
Lauren

What is BootBlog?

BootBlog is the company blog of the BootsnAll Travel Network, a company that has been connecting travellers since 1998. Our goal is to inspire, educate and cultivate an organic community of independent travellers. But what does that mean? Well, we love to travel and we love to connect other travellers who have the desire to get out and see this great world of ours. BootBlog will showcase what is going on around the office, around the company and within our community of travellers.
