The red light district stays red to foreigners in Japan – not surprising. Only a short time ago, foreigners weren’t even allowed in the country. The way they handle this, though, is hilarious, really.
A friend of mine from Australia who teaches school in Sapporo told me the latest craze is super short shirts and all the school girls adjust their uniforms accordingly.
He also said in nightclubs they go for super skimpy outfits.

Living in a tight, restrictive, rule driven society fosters outlandish dress and behavior. And I loved this aspect of the young in school that caused staff and administration to cringe, crawl and moan. On the streets, people simply stared, sometimes stopped, but were always affected in some way. Lovely because it really isn’t destructive, at least what I observed.

last night I found out my hotel is in the red light area…which is so funny as its totally closed to non-japanese. As I walked along the street all the pimps stood to attention and the girls adjusted their skirts – it was like being on parade…i shall go back tonight to take some photos…
