Foggy SF Beach Party
On Saturday afternoon, we met with Larry Habegger of Traveler’s Tales. He lives on Telegraph Hill and if you ever get a chance to walk around up there, I highly recommend it. The houses are tight together on a steep hill, connected by wooden walkways. There’s a real community feel to it, everyone knows everyone who lives there. It’s also just a short walk (down another very steep hill) to the lively North Beach area.
After we wrapped up with Larry, Sean and I picked up Jen and made a mad dash over to the beach where Jen was hosting the Sand in My Bra beach party, stopping at Safeway along the way to pick up some firewood and last minute supplies.
Only 30 minutes late, we rolled up to find the Lyons family (old friends of Jen’s) cruising up and down the beachfront trying to find us. After moving the esky down to the beach and setting up with the food and drink, we wondered how many people would show up considering the nasty weather. It was cold, windy, foggy and not at all like a day at the beach.
SF’ers are a hardy bunch though and it wasn’t long before we were joined by Larry and his daughters, Alison Wright, Brad Newsham with his wife Rhonda and daughter Sarah, Gregg Butensky, Joe E and Mavis, Jennifer Colvin and her husband Bob, Amy Scott and her partner Juan.
This being San Francisco, everyone has a website!
The Brady family also arrived to say a quick hello. They don’t have a website, but we let them stay anyway.
Brad Newsham is an old hand at beach parties and he was instrumental in getting our fire started. It was built according to The Way, with some minor modifications due to the weather. In no time we had a roaring flame going that certainly helped more than the beer to keep the cold out.
It was a fun time and great to physically meet some people that I had met virtually through BootsnAll. We donated our fire to the next group of people and left them with the sandy leftovers of our food.

What is BootBlog?
BootBlog is the company blog of the BootsnAll Travel Network, a company that has been connecting travellers since 1998. Our goal is to inspire, educate and cultivate an organic community of independent travellers. But what does that mean? Well, we love to travel and we love to connect other travellers who have the desire to get out and see this great world of ours. BootBlog will showcase what is going on around the office, around the company and within our community of travellers.Top Categories

One of the things that tends to happen when I talk to people about my job at BootsnAll is the, "Oh, you're so lucky!" moment. I do consider myself extremely fortunate to be able to write about travel every day - to do something I love so much that work doesn't feel …

Those of you who read the BootBlog may remember my recent musings on how online friends become real-life friends. What some of you who read that article may not know is that I heard from several BootsnAll members after it was published who said, "Yeah, that's interesting and all, but we've been doing that for years now." And it's … [Read more]

Awhile back I posted here about getting into the Boston Globe Travel Show for free. Turns out that was for the trade conference during the day on Friday Feb 19th, not the travel show for regular consumers like you and me that runs from the evening of Friday, February 19 to …
