Road Trip to Seattle
“Wanna see a Mariner’s game?”
“Sure.”
That was about the extent of the conversation and the planning that came before Sean and I left for Seattle on April 11th. We got the OK from Andy Walker to crash on his floor and we were off. Since it was a short trip and we needed to make good time, the BootBus had to stay at home for this trip.
We stopped overnight in Portland so we could take another look around the new office and then went for a beer with our real estate agent.
Next morning we were off early and cruised up I-5 to Seattle. After taking care of some business meetings in the morning, we drove out to meet up with Andy at his place. After a wander around his cool co-housing community and a tour of his awesome house we met Andy’s wife Wendy, who had been attending a birthday celebration of a community member.
We enjoyed a great dinner with them at Pike’s Market before heading to the game at Safeco Field. It’s a beautiful stadium and since there was some light rain, the roof was closed.
Sean and I were talking about baseball and I learned a few more rules and terms. Seattle were playing the Texas Rangers and Alex Rodriguez, the world’s most expensive player, is a former Seattle player so the crowd enjoyed giving him a hard time. It didn’t help that he hit one out of the park in the first inning!
Apart from the shock of paying $6 for crappy macrobrew, Sean and I had a few beers, ate some popcorn and hot dogs, walked around the park and watched the game from different parts of the stadium.
We snapped a few photos of Ichiro Suzuki, a local fan favourite.
The Mariners ended up winning comfortably, 13-4 in front of 36,500 fans and two BootBoyz. Andy very kindly picked us up downtown. Thanks mate!
The next day we all went for an awesome breakfast at a cafe who’s name escapes me at the moment.
It was a long drive back to Eugene, but well worth it.
