I would advise steering clear of the study abroad/gap program CIEE. The organization turned out to be unorganized, expensive and very unhelpful. They came to our high school and seemed to be the only program addressing gap year opportunities -however there are others out there and I would encourage you to explore them.
What is BootBlog?
BootBlog is the company blog of the BootsnAll Travel Network, a company that has been connecting travellers since 1998. Our goal is to inspire, educate and cultivate an organic community of independent travellers. But what does that mean? Well, we love to travel and we love to connect other travellers who have the desire to get out and see this great world of ours. BootBlog will showcase what is going on around the office, around the company and within our community of travellers.Top Categories

The key thing to remember when taking a prolonged gap year is to base your self in one place for a few months. Otherwise travel and hotel costs build up.
Xtreme Gap have some great options for programs based in Koh Tao in Thailand. You can spend up to 16 weeks there on your gap year doing a Scuba Diver instructor course, then you can travel and earn at the same time. In fact you will never come home!
