Top 10 Cultural Faux Paus

The Defense Language Institute and military mag ‘Airman’ have issued a list of the Top 10 Cultural Faux Paus.

The list includes the ever-popular ‘eat with your right hand’ and ‘don’t diss the elderly’, however I learned a few things, such as always present gifts in pairs in China, since single items are considered lonely, or bad luck.

Fun article….thanks for posting.

One minor correction….The only # that is considered unlucky in Chinese is 4 (It’s pronouciation sounds like death).

8 = Long life ; 9 = Wealth, there are others, but odd numbers are not necessarily bad.

On the blowing the nose thing….I find it curious that blowing one’s nose into a hankie is rude, but holding one nostrel shut and discharging the contents onto the pavement in public is not. I guess this is the ying/yang of asian culture.

What is BootBlog?

BootBlog is the company blog of the BootsnAll Travel Network, a company that has been connecting travellers since 1998. Our goal is to inspire, educate and cultivate an organic community of independent travellers. But what does that mean? Well, we love to travel and we love to connect other travellers who have the desire to get out and see this great world of ours. BootBlog will showcase what is going on around the office, around the company and within our community of travellers.
