We love travel contests - especially ones with kickass prizes like a free around-the-world plane ticket. Yes, you read that right. The people who brought you the vagabonding movie, “A Map for Saturday” have teamed up with Hostelling International USA in what they’re calling, “The Big Trip Contest.” Here’s the scoop:
Want to see the world? You can follow in the footsteps of the travelers in “A Map for Saturday” on your own Big Trip. We’ll get you started with a free around-the-world plane ticket, 20 nights’ accommodations in Hostelling International hostels and other travel goodies like guidebooks and a backpack. Plus you’ll get tips on your itinerary in a one-on-one planning session with “Saturday” director Brook Silva-Braga.
All you need to do to enter is write a brief essay of 400 words or less demonstrating why you deserve to win this prize. The contest sponsors say the ideal candidate will be someone who not only loves to travel, but who is also willing and able to share the ups and downs of this travel experience as they go. In other words, you’d have to keep a travel blog or post podcasts or videos regularly, which many long-term travelers do anyway.
The contest deadline is November 30, 2007, so what are you waiting for? Read the press release here, the official rules here, and get started on your entry!

What is BootBlog?
BootBlog is the company blog of the BootsnAll Travel Network, a company that has been connecting travellers since 1998. Our goal is to inspire, educate and cultivate an organic community of independent travellers. But what does that mean? Well, we love to travel and we love to connect other travellers who have the desire to get out and see this great world of ours. BootBlog will showcase what is going on around the office, around the company and within our community of travellers.Top Categories

Those of you who read the BootBlog may remember my recent musings on how online friends become real-life friends. What some of you who read that article may not know is that I heard from several BootsnAll members after it was published who said, "Yeah, that's interesting and all, but we've been doing that for years now." Awhile back I posted here about getting into the Boston Globe Travel Show for free. Turns out that was for the trade conference during the day on Friday Feb 19th, not the travel show for regular consumers like you and me that runs from the evening of Friday, February 19 to …
